The course starts with the fundamentals of credit assessment and financial statement analysis, before moving into credit scoring and decisioning frameworks. Participants then work through IFRS 9 provisioning and portfolio concentration risk in detail, followed by early warning systems and loan workout structuring. The course closes with collateral management and building an institutionwide credit risk governance framework.
The Credit Risk and Loan Portfolio Management Training Course is a five-day programme that builds practical, IFRS 9-aligned credit risk skills for banks, microfinance institutions and development lenders. Loan portfolio quality remains one of the strongest predictors of an African bank's long-term profitability and stability, yet credit risk practices vary widely across institutions. Participants leave able to assess borrower creditworthiness, calculate expected credit loss provisions, manage portfolio concentration risk and structure effective loan workout plans.
Rising interest rates and currency volatility across African markets have put loan portfolios under renewed pressure, and regulators are paying closer attention to how banks apply IFRS 9 provisioning in practice.
