Course Overview

This five-day programme develops practical capability in sustainability reporting, climate-related risk assessment and greenhouse gas emissions accounting, with a focused application of IFRS S1, IFRS S2 and GRI Standards. Participants will examine how sustainability-related risks and opportunities are identified, assessed and incorporated into organisational reporting and decision-making.

The programme places particular emphasis on climate scenario analysis, stress testing, GHG emission calculation and Scope 3 measurement, including financed emissions, capital goods, business travel, employee commuting and waste-related emissions. Participants will work through practical exercises to strengthen their ability to collect, analyse, calculate and communicate sustainability information.

Introduction

The increasing importance of sustainability information in financial and strategic decision-making requires organisations to develop reliable systems for identifying, measuring and disclosing environmental and climate-related risks and opportunities. Reporting teams must increasingly connect sustainability data with financial implications, organisational strategy, risk management and stakeholder expectations.

This programme provides a practical approach to applying IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and GRI Standards, while developing the technical capability required to assess climate risks and calculate greenhouse gas emissions. Particular attention is given to Scope 3 emissions, where organisations often face significant challenges around data availability, estimation, emission factors and value-chain measurement.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the structure and application of IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 sustainability disclosure requirements.
  • Apply relevant GRI Standards to organisational sustainability reporting.
  • Identify and assess climate-related physical and transition risks and opportunities.
  • Conduct climate scenario analysis and stress testing.
  • Establish appropriate organisational boundaries and data requirements for GHG accounting.
  • Calculate Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Identify, measure and interpret relevant Scope 3 emission categories.
  • Calculate emissions associated with capital goods, waste, business travel and employee commuting.
  • Understand approaches to measuring financed emissions and portfolio-related emissions.
  • Integrate climate, emissions and sustainability information into credible organisational disclosures.
