Course Overview
Inclusive leadership and allyship training teaches managers and leaders to turn stated commitment to diversity into everyday inclusive behaviour and genuine allyship for colleagues from underrepresented groups. Working through a live case study team where inclusive intent has not translated into inclusive practice, participants identify the specific behaviours undermining inclusion and build a personal leadership action plan. Participants move from diagnosing where the case study team's inclusive intent breaks down in daily practice to presenting a personal leadership action plan, working the same team from a Day 1 diagnostic through to a Day 5 commitment. The allyship exercises focus on specific, observable behaviours rather than abstract values, so participants leave with concrete practices rather than good intentions.
Introduction
Most managers who say they value diversity genuinely mean it, and most still unconsciously favour people who remind them of themselves when it comes to stretch assignments, informal mentoring and the small daily decisions that shape whose career actually advances. The gap between stated values and daily leadership behaviour is where inclusion efforts most often quietly fail, not in the policy document but in a hundred small moments nobody is tracking.
This course builds the practical leadership skills managers need to close that gap, translating inclusive intent into inclusive behaviour and genuine allyship for colleagues from underrepresented groups. Working through a live case study team where good intentions have not changed daily practice, participants leave having diagnosed their own blind spots and built a personal leadership action plan.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the difference between diversity intent and inclusive leadership behaviour.
- Identify personal and team-level blind spots that undermine inclusion.
- Apply specific, observable allyship behaviours in daily interactions.
- Distinguish performative allyship from genuine, sustained allyship.
- Design inclusive practices for meetings, assignments and informal opportunity.
- Recognise and interrupt microaggressions and exclusionary behaviour in the moment.

Training Methodology
Case-led delivery built around a single team case study where inclusive intent has not translated into daily practice, developing across all five days from an initial diagnostic to a personal leadership action plan. Day 1 opens by diagnosing where the team's inclusive language and actual behaviour diverge; the case then carries through practising specific allyship behaviours, designing inclusive meeting and assignment practices, and a closing exercise building and presenting a personal action plan. Exercises focus on observable behaviour rather than abstract values. Cohorts typically bring together people managers, senior leaders and DEI professionals, testing the behaviours from multiple levels of seniority.
