This foundational course builds core QGIS skills, covering spatial data formats, layer management, digitising and map production. Participants work hands-on inside QGIS throughout, using real vector and raster datasets rather than software screenshots alone, building muscle memory for the workflows they will use repeatedly. The course closes with a finished, presentation-ready map built entirely by the participant from raw data.
QGIS has become the standard entry point into geographic information systems for development, government and research organisations across Africa, since it is free, open source and capable of everything most programme mapping and spatial analysis work requires.
