Volunteers and community mobilisers form the backbone of a great deal of African NGO programming, from community health worker networks to disaster response teams, yet volunteer management is often treated as an informal afterthought compared to the systems built around paid staff.
The gap between volunteer recruitment enthusiasm and sustained engagement is one of the most persistent challenges in community-based programming, with many mobilisation efforts losing momentum within months. This advanced course moves beyond volunteer recruitment drives into the retention system design, motivation management and mobilisation strategy that determine whether volunteer engagement lasts.
